Conventional And Unconventional Areas To Install Bifold Doors In Melbourne

category :

Bifold

There are many reasons for the increasing popularity of bifold doors in Melbourne, the main ones being that they enable you to completely open up a doorway and that they take up the least amount of space of any door. So, where are some of the most conventional and unconventional areas of your home in which to use bifolds?

Cupboards and Wardrobes

A conventional way to use bifold doors, they are great for saving space in hallways and bedrooms. It is becoming increasing common to install double bifolds that expand most of a wall and meet in the middle, allowing you to open either one or both at a time.
Laundry
Another conventional way to use bifold doors in Melbourne, the laundry is an area that people often like to keep separate from the rest of the house (especially if it is in full view). The bifolds are also effective at muffling the sounds of a washing machine or dryer whilst they are on.
Playroom
A slightly more unconventional way to use bifolds, they are often favoured as being lighter and safer for children to use than other types of doors. Lighter making the bifolds much easier for children to open, and safer meaning that they won’t snap shut on little fingers.
Garage
One of the more unconventional areas the use bifold doors in Melbourne, these doors can be operated both manually and by remote control. They are a much more contemporary option than the traditional door that folds up and down.

If you are looking at having the doors in your home changed in one of the above areas, perhaps you might like to consider opting for bifold doors instead of a more traditional option. Whether you want to take up less room in your home, make rooms safer for your kids or to give your home a more contemporary appearance, bifolds could be for you.

How To Install Bifold Door Hardware

category :

Bifold

If you have chosen to install your own bifold doors or you need to replace the track or handles due to damage, you may be wondering how to install the various hardware that is needed. Providing that you have all the items that you need (the track, the hinges and the handles), installing your bifold door hardware can be a relatively easy process.

Begin by using a pencil to make marks on the doorjamb where you will need to install the hinges. Draw one mark 11 inches from the bottom of the jamb, 7 inches from the top and then one that is halfway between these two marks. Then, hold the bifold doors together (the way they will look when opened) and place the bottom of one hinge on the bottom mark with the knuckles between the doors, securing it in place with screws. Following the same method, screw the middle and top hinges in place.

Next, you will need to attach the pivot plates to the top and the bottom of the bifold door that is closest to the jamb. You will also need to attach the locking arm to the top of the door. As the location of this hardware will differ depending on what sort of bifolds you have, you should always read the owner’s manual before installing to ensure you have each piece in the right spot.

To install the handles, you will need to measure, on the inside, 36 inches up from the bottom of the bifold door. After making a mark with a pencil, use a 3/16 drill bit to drill through the door. Hold the handle over the hole on the front of the bifold, insert a screw through the hole from the back and tighten to hold it into place.

What Are The Benefits Of Installing Bifolds?

category :

Bifold

Over the past few years, bifolds have been increasingly growing in popularity - they are now found in many homes across Australia. Not only are they an attractive addition to any property, the also offer a number of benefits to the homeowner. If you have been thinking about having some bifolds installed, this may help to make up your mind:

  • Bifolds are available in a range of colours, allowing to find one that most closely matches the existing colour of your home or one that will go well with the building without sticking out like a sore thumb.
  • Bifolds add a considerable amount of value to a home, as they are seen as being 'in vogue' at the moment and can really add to the attractiveness of a building's facade - homebuyers are favouring these doors.
  • Bifolds are virtually maintenance free; all you need to do is give them a wipe down, inside and out, on the odd occasion in order to keep them sparkling and looking good as new.
  • Bifolds can give your home more space, as they fold up sideways to rest against the wall rather than swinging inwards or outwards and using up your valuable floor space.
  • Bifolds are available in a range of materials - including aluminium, uPVC, wood and frameless glass – allowing you to choose one that will best suit the appearance and style of your home.

If you have been looking for a way to add value to your home without breaking the bank in terms of installation and maintenance, look no further than the humble bifold system. With the wide range in materials, colours and sizes available, you are sure to find some bifolds that suit your property to a tee.
