How To Child Proof Bifold Doors
category :
Bifolding Doors
For people with babies and young children, you may have realised that bifold doors are amazingly easy for little people to open and that this results in your possessions becoming strewn around the room (or even lost) and that squished fingers occur on a daily basis. To prevent this from happening, many parents decide to childproof their bifolds – but what is the best way to do this?
Zip-Tie Locks
These bifold door locks are highly simple to use – simply wrap each loop of the lock around one of the knobs or handles of your bifolds and press them together to zip them up. When you want to open to bifolds, simply unzip the tie and unhook one of the loops (remembering to replace them once your finished). This kind of lock, however, can become problematic when your children are a bit older and teach themselves how to undo them.
Top-Mounting Locks
These bifold door locks slip over the top of the doors, covering the folding portion so that they will not open when pulled. To install them, simply open your bifolds and place the lock to one side of the fold. Close the bifolds and slide the lock into place over the folding portion. When you want to open the bifolds, simply slide the lock off the fold (remembering to slide it back to relock). This kind of lock is great for older children, as they are unable to reach it (even if they do figure out how to work it).
The great thing about these simple bifold childproofing locks is that they are relatively inexpensive to buy. They are also something that can be easily taken with you – when you move house or even go on holiday, you can rest assured that you will be able to keep little people out of places they aren’t supposed to be.
