How To Lock Bi-Folding Doors
category :
Bifolding Doors
There are times that we may want to lock bi-folding doors that are not placed on the exterior of our homes – perhaps you have children (or a partner) who like to raid the pantry for midnight snacks, or you want to ensure that no one can walk in on you in the bathroom. For whatever reason, there are a number of ways to you can lock your bi-folds.
Bolts
These bi-folding door locks are generally installed on the panel that is furthest from the hinges securing it to the wall. They are screwed into the top of the panel and a hole is drilled into the frame of the wall above, allowing a snug fit for the bolt when you want to lock the door. If you want this lock to be reachable by little people, simply install it on the side of the door at a height that is reachable by everyone.
Hinged Hasp Lock
This bi-folding door lock is a clever little invention that requires the use of a key (just be careful not to lose it!). One side of the lock is installed on one of the door panels, and the other side is installed on the face of the adjoining panel. The hinge between the two lock sections will bend with the bi-folding doors when they are opened, but only if the key is fitted. To lock the doors, simply remove the key. The doors will refuse to budge.
Padlock
This bi-folding door lock is probably one of the most common currently used in our homes. Attach a hasp lock so that one side is on one door panel and that the other is on the face of the adjoining panel. Ensure that the lock body covers the folding crease of the door. Then, simply insert a padlock and lock it to keep unwanted people out.
